Speaking of big: take a look at the huge difference a year can make. After initially hitting a real slowdown because of the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, Austin has undoubtedly returned to the big time. Texas’ capital city is officially a destination once again, attracting millennials and, in turn, companies and investors.

For a time, Austin has been recognized as one of the country’s leading tech hubs behind Silicon Valley. After all, companies like Apple, Facebook, and Oracle now call it home. Now, though, the city can call itself a hub for commercial real estate investment as well. In recognition and anticipation of Austin’s emergence as a commercial real estate heavyweight, we thought we’d do our part to highlight some of the city’s upcoming retail construction projects. Here, we highlight both planned and ongoing retail construction projects across a range of industries and project values in Austin, Texas.

This list is based on a query of BuildCentral’s ConstructionWire for retail construction projects in planning and under construction with the latest updates coming at or after 9/1/2021. These projects are listed in order of estimated project value, also per ConstructionWire.

This Target renovation project is yet to begin, but an application was submitted to the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation back in September 2021. The project looks to revamp the entire retail space.

After registering its plans with the State of Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation, this project has had its building permit approved. Construction for the project has not yet begun, however, and neither a start date nor a construction schedule has been finalized. Additionally, Grand Construction, Inc. has been selected as the project developer.
