14 Rural Medical Construction Projects in Georgia

Construction is underway or in planning on 14 healthcare construction projects in rural Georgia, including two public projects for veterans. 

Two projects are expected to start in the next three months, 8 projects are in planning and 4 projects are under construction.

Dahlonega, Georgia Medical Center Construction 

In Dahlonega, Georgia construction is expected to start on the first phase of the Northeast Georgia Medical Center Lumpkin in August 2020.  

This phase will add 60,000 square feet and will include a 10-bay emergency department, a surgery department with three operating rooms and a procedure room, imaging services, a laboratory with a blood bank and a 16-bed inpatient acute care unit.

The first phase will also include sterile processing, nutrition services, pharmacy, administrative, environmental services and materials management.

A request for determination was filed with the state of Georgia in March 2020. 

 

Zebulon, Georgia Outpatient Clinic Construction 

Zebulon, Georgia has a population of 1,174, and is erecting a 60,628-square-foot outpatient clinic.

Construction is expected to begin construction soon and should be complete in summer 2021.

The US Department of Veterans Affairs recently purchased the land for this $35 million project. 

 

Georgia War Veterans Home in Milledgeville, Georgia

 In Milledgeville, Georgia, a town of 18,000 that once served as the capital of Georgia, construction is expected to start in August 2020 on the Georgia War Veterans Home.

The facility will house a sub-acute therapy unit– a 14-bed pod for the Georgia War Veterans Home. 

Renovations to the geriatric facility are also planned. 

A request for determination was filed with the state of Georgia in March 2020. 
 

Nursing Center Construction in Milledgeville, Georgia

Also in Milledgeville, Georgia, the Certificate of Need application for the Bostick Nursing Center Annex was approved by the state in March 2020.

Construction is expected to start in winter 2021. 

Plans call for a 150-bed annex across the street from the existing Bostick Nursing Center, which serves parole eligible inmates and individuals with psychiatric and behavioral health conditions who need skilled nursing care. 

ICU Renovations in Hiram, Georgia

In Hiram, GA, a city of 3,500, renovations to med/surg rooms at the Wellstar Paulding Hospital ICU are expected to start in April 2020.

The project will convert rooms on the fourth floor of the facility into four ICU rooms and four ICMU (intermediate care) rooms. 

The $1.5 million project should be done before the end of 2020. 

Perinatal Service Construction in Rome, Georgia

In Rome, GA, a representative from HCA Healthcare confirmed to BuildCentral that plans for the Redmond Regional Medical Center Obstetrics Unit are still in the concept stages.

The project calls for a perinatal service for Redmond Regional Medical Center that will include nine Labor, Delivery, Recovery, Postpartum rooms, a C-Section Suite, and a Level 1 Nursery.

The project is expected to cost $20 million. 

 

Cath Lab Construction in Douglas, Georgia

In Douglas, GA, planning is underway for a new cath lab at Coffee Regional Medical Center.

The project calls for renovations to add a second cath lab. 

A request for determination was filed with the state of Georgia in February 2020. 

 

Imaging Center Construction in Thomasville, Georgia

In Thomasville, GA a Certificate of Need application was approved in February 2020 for a Vision Imaging Center.

Plans call for the construction of a 5,106-square-foot imaging center that will include one fixed-based MRI and one fixed-base CT system.

A construction timeline hasn’t been announced. 

 

Inpatient Medical Facility Renovation in Waycross, GA

In Waycross, GA, construction is expected to start this summer on the Memorial Satilla Health Inpatient Behavioral renovation.

Plans call for renovations to existing space at the facility as part of a plan to relocate 15 inpatient behavioral health beds there.

The Certificate of Need application was submitted on 2/5/20.

Construction on the $6 million project is expected to start in summer 2020 and be complete in 2021. 

 

Emergency Department Construction in Bonaire, Georgia

In Bonaire, Georgia planning is underway on a freestanding emergency department for Coliseum Health.

Plans call for the construction of a freestanding emergency department, which will include imaging and laboratory services.

A Certificate of Need application for the $6 million project was submitted in January 2020.
